RODO - general information
RODO is an already widely accepted acronym referring to the current basic legal act in the European Union governing the area of protection of personal data - Regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council (EU) 2016/679 of 27.4.2016 on the protection of natural persons with regard to the processing of personal data and on the free movement of such data and repealing the Directive 95/46/EC (General Data Protection Regulation).
The regulations of this act affect, to a greater or lesser extent, all areas of legal transactions, as it is difficult to identify areas of life in which personal data are not processed, even to a minimum extent.
On 25 May 2018, RODO became directly applicable in all Member States of the European Union.
The two-year vacatio legis provided time to analyse the impact of the RODO provisions on individual industries, organisations and institutions, to define the obligations of controllers and the rights of data subjects, and to implement appropriate solutions to ensure compliance with the principles arising from the RODO. In addition, the legislator was faced with the need to review and Adaptation of a significant number of laws to RODO regulating data processing in various fields.
Undoubtedly, the increase in public awareness of the protection of personal data, as well as the fear of administrative penalties set out in the RODO legislation, has led to an interest in data protection issues and a demand for the services of specialists in this area.
